In November 2015, four hundred and sixty-two Northlanders went beautifully bald in a show of support of underprivileged children and their families suffering from the effects of cancer and other terminal illness. In doing so, Kerikeri broke a Guiness World Record for the number of people having their hair shaved in one hour by 10 hairdressers.
The Far North has some of the highest rates of rheumatic fever, poverty, suicide and unemployment and that affects our tamariki. Bald Angels Charitable Trust work in many ways to support these underprivileged youth by growing and supplying veggies in a community garden, collecting and distributing clothes, bedding and Christmas gifts, plus providing assistance with necessities and support for families identified by Police, Plunket, Women’s Refuge, Hospice, Food Banks, schools and other valuable social services.
For 'The Big Shave', Northland managed to raise over NZ$60,000, with all proceeds going to support these families in need.
